Tis the Season for TRUE GLAMOUR

Tis the season... the most glamorous season of the year. Nothing but candy canes, hot cocoa, luxurious fires, and delicious baked goods... it's the most relaxing time of the year, right? Well unless you're frosty the snowman and you were born yesterday, you know that this couldn't be further from the truth. Achieving that blissful holiday glamour that wows everyone is hard work and our job is to take the stress out of the holidays from our client and put it all on ourselves. I promise it's more fun for us than it sounds... our team comes from a unique mold, we enjoy chaos and sharing our ideas and style with the ones we love.
Just a few decorations from last year's holiday season

Last week we took on a particularly chaotic challenge... decorating a house for the holiday issue for the magazine 76092... two days before Halloween... for a family who doesn't normally decorate. It doesn't seem particularly challenging because all of the stores put out all of their Christmas decorations and supplies around Halloween, however they haven't quite had a chance to organize and merchandise because they are still focused on Halloween. For example two days before Halloween, Hobby Lobby was a disaster there was glitter, reindeer, and decorations EVERYWHERE... I mean literally everywhere. So when I walked in hoping to find each section organized by color and material in order for me to easily find some blue, silver, and white decorations for the photoshoot I found this lovely display.

However, several panic attacks later I was able to find my way through the chaos of Holiday invasions on Halloween and found the perfect accessories to add the finishing touches to a design that captured our style and most importantly the client's. The best part about decorating other houses for the holidays, is that we are able to ease our client's minds and answer the question; 'How can I decorate my house using most of the decorations I already have, make it my own, and find a way to make this year's decorations even better than the last?'. The answer is simple, Don't worry about it... we got this! Our team is the perfect combination as well. My mom, the designer always has new ideas and a great style that comes naturally with plenty experience which means she knows what her client's want before they do. I luckily inherited her vision and style and I am able to bring my own ideas and modifications, as well as new trends and methods I'm learning about in school... plus I tend to push the boundaries and question traditional ideas with my own.

Lynn, with her always positive attitude and love for the holidays, offers ideas, keeps us sane, and serves as the perfect balance. She has a more traditional style so she can relate with the clients, which helps to keep my mom and I from going too modern and reminds us to blend our style with the client's to create the perfect transitional look that the client loves. This transitional look is a modern take on the traditional style that the homeowner already has, we take the look they already have and focus on bringing light into the space, eliminating clutter, and adding the perfect modern accessories and finishing touches that give the room a completely new and innovative look while still fitting the client's tastes and helping them fall in love with their home all over again!
I can't wait to post the behind the scenes on the rest of our projects and creations throughout this season because I have a feeling that this season will be nothing but TRUE GLAMOUR so I will have plenty to share. I will also post the photos from the final looks for the photoshoot as soon as the magazine comes out... I can't post any spoilers but I promise it's worth waiting for. Check back soon for these photos as well as other photos of the houses (including our own!) we decorate for the holidays... we're booking up fast so there will be a lot of great ideas!
Until next time...

TRUE GLAMOUR... take one

I've never blogged before and have no idea what I'm doing but I've been told i have to start a blog so please bear with me, this could get interesting. Any remodeling and renovating project tends to have a madness that naturally occurs and puts your life on hold. Now if you multiply that one project by ten, spread them all over The Metroplex, add a time limit, a full class schedule with impossible projects complete with unreliable group members in my classes, and a very bipolar weather system; I’m sure you can get an idea of the mass chaos that can ensue while working at Sterling Renovations, enrolled as a full time student, and involved in organizations on campus.

As the daughter of a design team, I have gained an insight on the unexpected surprises that come along with the job from a young age and have seen first hand the random client requests, sub-contractor mishaps, and last minute changes that turn a relaxing Saturday with an easy job into a code red emergency. To a client who has been dealing with dust, paint fumes, eating off paper plates on the floor or living out of a hotel while their house appears to serve as grand central station for the subcontractors, men, women, and children who seem to be in their houses at all times, deadlines are not something to be messed with.

When you tell a client they will have their house back in pristine condition with no strangers, and better than they had ever dreamed it would be on a certain date, they expect it, and who can blame them? We understand how that is and we go above and beyond to meet every client’s expectations, no matter how strange or difficult it may be to achieve them, every time and let me tell you it makes for some pretty great stories.

So I feel it is my duty to share with you, whoever you may be, the mass chaos that comes along with this job and to let you know that you are not the only one who seems to be barely surviving the daunting task of renovating… trust me with our help you can do it, we do it every day. And now when our electrician’s foot bursts through the ceiling (again) I will be able to laugh it off and say well at least I can blog about this life of TRUE GLAMOUR as we drop everything we’re doing to fix the problem!
until next time...
